What is soap made of?
A fat and an alkali.Natural fats of animal origin such as tallow, fats derived from marine animals such as cod and porpoises, and vegetable fats, liquids or siccatives may be used in soap making.
An alkali substance such as natron, soda lye, caustic soda, potash, carbonate of soda, potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide is used. These alkali substances are extracted from hardwood ash or from seaweed ashes, or from natural salts or olein extracted chemically from fats.
The Savonnerie Olivier uses first cold-pressed olive oil as a fat and sodium hydroxide as an alkali base. Cocoa butter, beeswax and essential oils are added to create Olivier soaps.
How does soap clean?
This is simply a question of chemistry, since soaps are made from the same substances that they are designed to clean. Soaps made from sodium carbonate, somewhat similar to soaps made from soda, work by assimilating the fat found in stains into the soap.
What is glycerine?
Glycerine is a by-product of soap making. Used in cosmetics as a moisturizer and as an emollient, glycerine can be added to soap. It is also a product of soap making. All natural fats are glycerine ethers. Under the influence of agents that decompose these ethers (saponification), the fats assimilate the components of water, and reproduce both fatty acids and glycerine. Pure and natural cold process glycerine soaps are not transparent.
How do I buy these items?
Once the items you would like to purchase are in your shopping cart, go to your cart and click on "Check Out".

Why should I register?
While you can browse through OlivierScotland.com and add items to your shopping cart without registering. You will need to register if you want to checkout and place your order. You need to register only once to create an account and get a username and password. Any time you return to OlivierScotland.com you use this username and password to Sign In. Shopping Guarantee
If you are signed in, the check out is faster. Also, we will save the items you place in your Shopping Cart for up to 24 hours between visits. This is very convenient for the busy shopper who cannot finish their shopping in one visit. What if I forgot my password?
If you are registered with OlivierScotland.com and you are trying to sign in but you forgot your password, we can quickly provide you your information. Simply go go to the Sign In and request that your “Sign In” information be send to you be email. Immediately after you will receive an email with the information. How do I place items in my Shopping Cart?
Shopping with us is made easy with our shopping cart.You will automatically be taken to your shopping cart were you can see the contents of your cart. If you do not see the shopping cart icon is because your cart is empty.
You can review the contents of your shopping cart at any time by clicking on the shopping cart icon at the top right of the page. Click here to find out more about our Shopping Cart.
How do I change the items in my Shopping Cart?
To add more items to your order, click on the "Continue Shopping" button. To remove an item from the cart, click on the "Delete" to the right of it. The item will then disappear from the shopping cart. To change the quantity of any item in your shopping cart, select the desired number in the Quantity box.
You can click on the item description to go back to the item picture and details.
If you want to empty your Shopping Cart completely, simply click on "Delete All".
You can change your gift options such as the Gift Wrap It!, Gift Bask It!, or a Gift Note right from your shopping cart or by going to "Shop Online Gift Centre". Click here to find out more about our Shopping Cart or about our Shop Online Gift Centre.
How do I Check Out?
Once you have finished shopping, if you wish to see the details of or you want to check out, click on the Shopping Cart icon on the top right of the page. Once in your shopping cart you can review the items and quantities that you would like to order and click on "Check Out".
Remember, from the Shopping Cart you can add a message to your gift, or click on the "Gift Wrap It!" button, if you would like to wrap your items, or Make your own Gift Basket before checking out.
If you are not signed in, you will be prompted to sign in by entering your Username and Password. If you don't have an account, you must register which creates an account for you. How do I know my order has been completed?
You will see a page thanking you for your order, from which you can then return to our home page when you click on OK.We suggest that you print this invoice and keep it for your records. What are my payment options?

What do you charge for shipping and handling?

Can I cancel an order?
Once you have fully completed the Checkout process and you clicked on "Complete Purchase" you cannot cancel the order.
To remove any item from your shopping cart click on "Delete" next to the item. If you would like to empty your shopping cart completely click on "Delete All".
How do I return or exchange an item?
We take great pride in our attention for quality and excellent service. If for any reason you are not satisfied with a purchase, we will assist you with a prompt exchange.
Simply send items to the return address and enclose it with the item that you are returning and a copy of your invoice.
Personalized Gifts such as a “Gift Bask It” are not returnable or exchangeable.“Gift wrap” or “Gift Notes” costs are not refundable or exchangeable.

Is my personal information secure?

How will the recipient know who sent the gift?
When choosing your gift options in the “The Shop Online Gift Centre”, you will be able to compose a short Gift Note to the recipient and send your good wishes. Click here to find out more about Gift Notes
Will the recipient know what the gift is or how much it cost?
The only information that the recipient will receive is the “Gift Note” that you include and product information such as the description of what it is and directions. We will not include an invoice or a packing slip.
